For any site investigation carried out on our highways, whether it is located on our motorway network or on a quiet footpath, whether in the centre of a busy city or a sleepy village verge, you need a site investigation contractor who is competent and experienced in working in such environments. The task is not only to get quality data but to do it safely.
GEL have carried out countless projects on roads and motorways across the UK for Highways England, their agents and for local authorities. We hold approved subcontractor status for several Asset Support Contracts and many local authority highway departments. We also work closely with many main contractors: working on the road network; regularly attending safety days and briefings, and contributing to safety awareness across the sector.
Our vehicles are fully compliant and our personnel familiar with the requirements which are necessary for working on the highway. If required we can supply NRSWA supervisors and operatives. We are the originators of the Pioneer rig, much favoured by our clients. The compact, track mounted rig is capable of dynamic sampling softer materials and coring obstructions and bedrock – a ‘one stop rig’. We have further innovated this technology for working on slopes such as highway embankments and cuttings.
We believe the best projects are based on partnerships and early contractor Involvement so we can be with you throughout the whole process from advising you on the most cost-effective techniques and making the most of your budget, to the best approach regarding access and logistics, and accompanying you on site visits and attending contractual meetings.

“The P60 enabled us to carry out the ground investigation in a position with difficult access and with restricted working times in a highways environment. Having the rotary capability of the P60 rig allowed us to drill to the required depth quickly and efficiently. The mule attached to the P60 rig provided a safe working platform for all staff on site”
